N°92 Statement Earrings

Dragon Vein Agate, Carnelian & Agate Earrings – Inspired by a Corallimorph

Every time I dive, I look for the hidden gems of the reef—the creatures often overlooked but bursting with intricate detail and stunning coloration. This pair of earrings is directly inspired by the corallimorph you see on the right. If you’ve never noticed these reef dwellers before, it’s time to take a closer look. They are not quite corals, not quite anemones, but they share the best traits of both.

The corallimorph in my photo is a vibrant orange-red, with a rich, crackled texture along its oral disc and tentacle tips. That unique pattern and color transition are exactly what guided my material choices for these earrings.

1. The Fiery Color Palette

   • The Dragon Vein Agate teardrop stones perfectly capture the warm, almost translucent quality of the corallimorph’s body. The intricate veining in the agate mirrors the natural texture of the coral polyp's oral disc, where ridges and folds play with light underwater.
   • The deep red Agate beads reflect the saturated red hues found along the tentacle tips, adding depth to the overall composition.
   • Carnelian, known for its warm, orange-red glow, bridges the color spectrum between the two gemstones, just as the corallimorph’s body blends from deep red to golden amber.
     

2. The Textural Details

   • The gold-plated cap on each teardrop stone features a detailed triangular etching, resembling the subtle raised ridges seen on the coral’s body.
   • The perforated gold disc at the top is a direct nod to the coral’s porous surface, mimicking the delicate openings and textural complexity that define its organic structure.
