Rock Pool Luxe: Wear the Tides of Time

One of my favourite pools at Lennox Head is home to a small colony of Neritid snails, their patterned shells scattered amongst the sand and stone, shifting with each tidal movement but always returning to their place in the ecosystem. The intricate, rippled texture of these tiny snails—formed by the rhythmic growth of their shells—perfectly embodies the balance of structure and fluidity found in intertidal life. I knew immediately that these creatures would be the foundation for a design that celebrates both the raw beauty of coastal environments and the refined elegance of natural materials.

These earrings feature real Neritid snail shells, each one carefully selected and preserved to retain its intricate, striated surface. The undulating patterns of the shell are a direct reflection of the textured, layered landscape of the rock pools themselves, echoing the rippling sand formations left behind as the tide retreats. To elevate their natural beauty, I have dipped them in gold—a subtle but striking enhancement that mirrors the way sunlight catches on wet rock, creating those fleeting flashes of brilliance as the water shifts.

Stacked above the shell, freshwater pearls provide a contrast in both texture and form. Their smooth, organic shapes recall the rounded stones nestled in the pools, polished by years of tidal movement. The lustre of the pearls also draws a connection to the delicate sheen of water that clings to the rocks before evaporating in the afternoon sun. Each pearl was chosen not for perfection, but for character—just like the unpredictable, evolving formations within the pool itself. The golden accents add warmth and structure, reinforcing the connection between natural elements and refined craftsmanship.
