N°075 Statement Earrings - The Vanuatu Collection

The mantle tissue of the giant clam has always struck me as one of the reef’s most extraordinary canvases. Its surface is alive with shifting iridescence—patterns of emerald, cobalt, and turquoise layered into folds that ripple like light itself. The deeply scalloped morphology, with valleys and ridges edged in luminescence, became the blueprint for these earrings. I wanted to capture not only the clam’s colour palette but also the structural richness of its tissue.

I chose chrysocolla for the main drops, their bold green-and-blue veining resonating with the clam’s intricate patterning. Above them, agate and green onyx bring depth, their translucence recalling the way light penetrates through mantle folds. Tiny lapis beads provide flashes of deep marine blue, anchoring the spectrum. All of these elements are suspended from hammered silver discs, their textured surfaces reflecting the irregular beauty of the clam’s living anatomy.

For me, these earrings distill the clam’s opulent surfaces into something wearable—biology translated into brilliance, a reminder of reef resilience carried forward in art.
