Can one ever overdose on Paua?

There is a good reason why Paua is called "Marine Opal" - although this is so hard to capture in images! I brought back lots of Paua from my last two New Zealand trips, where it is rightly revered as one of the most beautiful and culturally significant materials.

I think I am so in love with Paua because, not only does it look amazing, but working with Paua satisfies both the designer and the scientist in me. It is such wonderful material to work with - the iridescence of its Nacre (Mother of Pearl) is really like working with materialised Northern Light.

Interestingly, this mesmerising effect is created when light shines on the thick nacre shell layer. Subsequently, the reflected light on the inner layer interferes with the reflections of light on the outer layer, causing the iridescent effect. Wave physics have never looked better!

In this set I added enough purple Amethyst and Agates, and Balinese glass beads to harmonise with the purple and green hues in the Paua, and juxtaposed it with just enough black Lava, Onyx and Agates to give it a calming background.

Statement earrings: 5.2cm long

Statement bracelets are made to measure, so please make sure to leave size instructions (your wrist circumference at the widest point right over the wrist bone; see photo). Without your wrist measurement I can't finish your order.

Magical jewellery

Have just received my 5th necklace and earrings from "Luka". Such beautiful pieces. Kirsten sends a card with each piece naming all the stones and where they come from...so special. I have a few bracelets as well which fit perfectly as they are made to measure. I get so many comments when I wear my Luka pieces. No pieces are the same so they're really unique. Love them.

Another stunner

It’s taken me a while to get to this review. In the meantime I have worn this set a lot. Seems to go with a lot even this unlikely green. The photos do no do justice to these stunning stones.
