N°81 Statement Earrings

The focal point in these earrings are rare stones, called LARSONITE, which I paired with harmonizing tiny Carnelians (6.9cm long).

"Larsonite" is a form of petrified wood and is only found near the Nevada/Oregon border. It's believed to be wood that was covered by volcanic activity between 11-15 million years ago. The volcanic event covered this area in debris that deprived the plants of oxygen, halting the decay process.
Minerals from the volcanic ash then acted as the replacement material for this petrification/mineralization, giving the wood these lightest of grey- green hues.
It is a green tone like no other ... and a story like no other stone, which for me is the best mix!

And like all pieces in this collection, the inspiration for this design is a marine critter - a burrowing anemone with an fluorest green centre.
