The Royal Order of Purple

There are coral fans, shell collectors, and then there are the true devotees — the women who worship at the altar of purple. You know who you are. Regal, mysterious, and just a little bit impossible to ignore.

The muse for these 6 cm earrings was a colonial ascidian I found off La Pirate, near Flores — a riot of lilac and violet, so shockingly bright it looked like someone had dropped a paint bomb on the reef. Each tiny dot was a living inlet or outlet — ascidian architecture at its weirdest and most wonderful.

I tried to capture that energy with Brazilian agate drops, two shades of amethyst, and silver-plated elements from the US, Jaipur, and Seoul — the lattice echoing the colony’s structure. The result? A wearable purple uprising.

They are just earrings, but they are also a declaration: long live the queens of violet.
