The Reef’s Colour Code, Rewritten for You

The colours for this set were directly inspired by one of the most electrifying dives, coming across a fluorescent orange anemone nestled within a thicket of macroalgae at 30 metres depth off Lord Howe Island. Its form was compact but pulsating, with tentacles that seemed to glow almost fluorescent, even in the low filtered light at depth. The contrast between the fleshy incandescence of the anemone and the lime to olive splendour of the surrounding algae made the whole scene feel like nature was putting on a slow-burn light show just for me. 

The focal drop in this lariat necklace is Dragon Vein Agate, chosen for its netted, almost cellular surface pattern that mimics the fine texture of the anemone’s column. I’ve paired this with irregular beads of jade, jadeite, and vesuvianite to echo the rich greens of the macroalgae, and used vivid carnelian and deep orange agate as accents to represent the bold fluorescence of the tentacles. This lariat is truly delicious- like a pan full of delicious warm vegetables. Warm greens and warm tangerines & burnt orange with lots of silver!

As for the earrings you have 3 choices:

1. Top Pair: Oval orange-red carnelian set into elegant silver ear wires— elegant, minimalist, and warm.

2. Bottom left:  I selected polished oval agate with distinct banding because the pattern mimics the textured rings of the anemone’s central disc—concentric, defined, and softly variegated.  Set into a fine bubble silver-plated element referencing the subtle whorls and ridges on the creature’s skin (5.4cm long).

3. Bottom Pair: The dragon vein agate teardrops mirrors the fleshy, tactile folds of the anemone’s tentacles when retracted. The spiral silver wire above them references the curling structure of those tentacles when extended. I used muted green and oxidised finishes to keep the aesthetic close to that algae-draped environment I found them in—less reef glam, more field-ready elegance (6.9cm long).
