A Little Kyoto, Soft Colours & Contemporary Intent

With this set I tried to merge Japanese clarity with contemporary design — quiet on the surface, intentional underneath. The first thing you notice is the rectangular landscape jasper in the outer necklace, I brought back from Kyoto some 10 years ago. It has that uncanny, accidental artistry you find in good Japanese ceramics: soft rose, shiras, and muted earth tones drifting across the stone like a landscape pared down to its essentials.

The surrounding materials keep the mood steady. High- end transluscent and delicately faceted Smoky quartz brings transparency without shine. Raw rose quartz introduces a gentle roughness. Agates and stick pearls add small shifts in texture, just enough to keep the eye moving. The 22k gold-plated Istanbul components aren’t ornamental — they function more like clean architectural accents.

The inner necklace echoes the palette but sharpens the geometry. Rose and shiras pearls form a soft gradient, interrupted by a cubist rose quartz pendant that gives the piece its contemporary line. It feels balanced, but not symmetrical; refined, but not precious. Both necklace can be worn independently, stacked or connected to make a mid- or long necklace!

The statement earrings take the modernist cue further: hammered vermeil bars (22k gold over sterling silver) form a simple vertical structure, holding drops of landscape jasper, pearls, and chalcedony.
The silhouette is concise — 6.9 cm — but visually confident.

And for days when less is better, the tiny smoky quartz and rose quartz earrings carry the same palette in a much quieter tone.

This set works because it doesn’t try too hard. I would like to think it lets colour, form, and restraint do the work — the way good Japanese design always has.
