N°1443 Statement Earrings

Some days I feel so overwhelmingly lucky to live in Australia... and this is the inspiration for these earrings. Earrings are apolitical by nature, but like all my pieces these are autobiographical. They were conceived on the day we got news that Ukrainian family friends (one of whom lost her legs in a Russian bomb attack) made it safely out of Mariupol to Munich.
Although not born in Australia (but in the Alps of Bavaria) this country is my spiritual home and no colours represent my home village Lennox Head more in winter than the orange hues of flowering coastal Banksia and juxtaposed by the blue sky. So I tried to translate these feelings of pure joy & gratefulness to be living on Bundjalung country through Carnelian, Hessonite (rare orange variety of Garnet), Agates and tiny recycled sea glass beads from Bali.
P.S  The earrings are very light-weight.
