The Jewellery Potential of Sri Lankan Public Transport

One of the things that fascinated me all over Sri Lanka was the extraordinary care lavished on buses, because they are not merely public transport but moving works of art, covered in chrome, painted panels, flourishes, colour and personal detail, with such obvious pride that even standing beside one at a bus stop can feel like looking at somebody’s travelling gallery.

This particular bus in Colombo gave me the palette for these earrings, with its riot of pale blue, silver, light orange and warm amber translated intorecycled sea glass beads at the base (beautifully irregular by nature), paired withhessonite garnet, carnelian and tiny quartz crystals in asilver-plated setting (6.0cm long).

That mixture of cool blue and glowing orange has a wonderful effect near the face, adding warmth, energy and a little visual lift without becoming sweet or predictable.
