Algae Affair

Sometimes, inspiration doesn’t arrive in grand waves — it slinks in quietly with the tide, glittering under a rock. That’s how these 6cm 22k gold-plated earrings were born: a chance encounter with the most astonishing iridescent algae on Boulder Beach, Lennox Head. It shimmered like a royal velvet cloak — green bleeding into turquoise, blue into lime — the ocean’s own couture.

So I translated that encounter into form and colour: Australian chrysoprase, Brazilian lemon jade, and recycled glass shards from the US, stacked like the tide’s own gemstones. They’re short, bright, and unapologetically happy — little sunbursts with a saltwater soul.

Because sometimes one glimpse of algae can remind you how utterly miraculous colour can be. And how lucky we are, in Australia, to find such beauty not in galleries, but in rock pools — quiet sanctuaries still untouched by the noise of the world.
