I didn’t expect a hawksbill to lead the design, not really. You clock the species, you register the privilege, and usually that’s enough. But this one slowed everything down. Those flippers — inky black stitched through creamy bone tones, edged with burnt orange heat near the scutes — were so precise, so unapologetically graphic, they stayed lodged in my head. 

Chohua Jasper became the only logical translation, its manganese-black inclusions reading like a Japanese ink painting suspended in stone. Cut into round discs , the jasper is anchored in a 22-karat gold-plated base, sharpened with recycled glass shards that echo Japanese architectural lines, then grounded with deep, smouldering orange agate ( 6.9 cm long).

The result isn’t decorative; it’s composed. Calm, deliberate, quietly powerful — the kind of jewellery that doesn’t chase attention, but commands stillness when it enters the room.
