Two Hundred Million Years Meet One Sri Lankan Sunset

Near Trincomalee, we watched one of those completely unreasonable Sri Lankan sunsets, where the sky seemed determined to use every version of orange before surrendering to darkness. 

In these earrings, I tried to translate that collision of darkness and incandescent light through glowing amber, rose-coloured quartz and tiny quartz crystals, before anchoring everything with something considerably older than the sunset: around 200-million-year-old Moroccan ammonites, ingeniously cut into these unusual geometric forms by a stone artisan in India (6.9cm long).

Set into a silver-plated base from Jaipur and Seoul, they bring together ancient ocean fossils, Indian craftsmanship and one gloriously excessive evening in Sri Lanka.
