N°079 Statement Earrings - The Vanuatu Collection

The striated folds of this sand-dwelling coral fascinated me with their order and intensity—fine ridges radiating from a single centre, drawing the eye inward while echoing outward like tidal energy captured in tissue. That geometry became the direct blueprint for these earrings. I wanted to preserve the rhythm of those striations in stone and metal, translating anatomy into wearable structure.

I selected rare Owyhee opal from Oregon as the main stone. Its blue-grey translucence holds the same quiet luminosity I see in the coral’s striated surface, like light diffused through shallow water. Each piece of opal is framed in silver plate, the cool metal amplifying the stone’s depth while giving form to its organic asymmetry. At the base, I suspended the tiniest silver drop pearls, subtle yet deliberate, a nod to the glistening softness that balances the coral’s rigid skeleton.

For me, these earrings distil the reef’s precision into ear candy—science reimagined as adornment, where striated patterns of coral become both memory and movement.
