N°070 Statement Earrings - The Vanuatu Collection

The fleshy ridges and luminous valleys of Lobophyllia corals have always fascinated me—the way each polyp is at once distinct yet part of a greater living architecture. In this piece, I translated that tissue complexity into metal and stone. The interwoven gold filigree echoes the folded walls that define each coral polyp, looping in continuous rhythm like a living lattice.

Suspended beneath, the dragon vein agate from Brazil mirrors the mottled translucence of coral flesh stretched over skeleton, its vein-like inclusions recalling the fine networks that sustain the animal. At the crest, small moonstone briolettes shimmer with the same shifting iridescence I see when sunlight refracts across living coral tissue.

Designing this way is my way of keeping reef ecology alive in another form—science transformed into wearable art. These earrings, born from Lobophyllia’s extraordinary surfaces, are not just adornments but a reminder that what grows in the sea can be carried close, luminous with memory and meaning.
