Up in the misty tea country near Haputale, where some of the world’s great teas grow across impossibly green mountain slopes, we were rattling uphill in a little tuk-tuk when this woman looked up from the tea bushes, wrapped in deep blue and violet with that brilliant blue collecting cloth over her head, and for a few seconds the whole scene became an accidental colour composition ofroyal blue, bottle green, black and hard mountain light.

That image followed me home, and these extraordinaryagate geodes gave me exactly the right material to translate it, with their electric royal blues, cloudy crystalline centres and rough-edged interiors looking like tiny geological time capsules that somebody has split open purely to show off. I paired them withdeep bottle-green quartz crystals and set the composition into a22k gold-plated base, using elements collected inJaipur and Seoul, so the whole piece carries that same collision of saturated blue against endless tea-country green (

If your ears only tolerate featherweights, these are probably not your pair, because the geodes have real substance, but on the right woman that weight becomes part of the pleasure, giving them movement, presence and the sort of colour that does not politely finish an outfit but changes its entire temperature.
