Even after more than 30 years of photographing giant clams, this encounter stopped me completely. The exhalant siphon’s tissue unfolded in deep amber, burnt orange, and shadowed darkness, a colour composition so graphic and deliberate it felt less like biology and more like a painting briefly revealed underwater. Some patterns you observe; others interrupt you.

Translating that moment led me to Chohua jasper — a stone whose dramatic blacks are shaped by manganese, while iron carries the warm orange-red tones. Its fractured, almost calligraphic patterning echoed the same visual tension I had seen in the clam’s living surface. Tiny faceted citrines from India amplify the amber warmth, extending that glow into light. Set into a 22-carat gold-plated base, the composition leans fully into richness, contrast, and structure.
