My one and only Peruvian Opal pair!

When I lean in close to a giant clam, its mantle reveals an extraordinary living canvas: intricate folds of tissue patterned in electric blues and turquoises, edged with iridescent siphonal tentacles. These structures are not only functional—harbouring symbiotic algae and regulating light—but also visually striking, a biological tapestry that became the direct blueprint for these earrings.

To translate that brilliance, I turned to one of the rarest stones: Peruvian opal. Unlike other opals, which fracture light into rainbow-like spectra, Peruvian opal owes its intense aqua colour to the presence of copper within its crystalline structure. Its depth of tone mirrors the clam’s chromatic tissues with an uncanny precision. I paired the irregular slab-cut stones with a 22k gold-plated filigree base, the looping metalwork echoing the clam’s ornate surface patterns while adding structure and movement.

I'd like to think these earrings invite curiosity, and in doing so, bring a touch of living reef wonder into everyday life.
