Jewellery that Remember the Currents

The stacked necklaces in this set are  straight out of a warm, shallow reef shelf dive- somewhere tropical with good visibility and loads of coral bommies.

The moment I saw these stones coming together, I was thinking about those late-morning descents when the light’s strong and the reef just pops. Turquoise, Agates, Pearls, handmade glass beads from Ghana, Amazonite from Peru and lots of warm, 22k gold-plated findings are dead ringers for luscious sponges, ascidians, soft corals, anemones and bryozoan communities.

That big Amazonite teardrop at the centre? It’s the colour of the water when you're at about 10–12 metres, looking up, hovering mid-water, perfectly neutral. It’s that silty, electric turquoise that only comes when the sun’s high and the sand's been stirred just a little. I framed it with a rough gold ring to feel like the natural archways and coral curves we swim through—organic but strong, just like the reef.

The statement earrings are a direct pull from the kind of quiet observation you do near the end of a dive. They reflect those small but striking creatures—like solitary tunicates or sponges with vibrant colour zoning.

The Turquoise & Oyster stone drops have an intriguing story, dating back over 4000 years to native South American tribes- Spiny Oyster jewellery.

Spiny Oysters live in the warm waters in the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) on the Baja Peninsula and thrive from North Carolina to Brazil. Their hinged shells have sharp spines which serve as protection, giving them their name. Their colours range from light pink, orange to a warm brown. The colours vary from region to region, based on what the molluscs eat and the depth of water where they live. But this is only the oceanic half of the story of these stones – because the other half is earthy Turquoise. This is a composite stone that apparently is widely used by contemporary Navajo artisans and is produced by mixing the two materials in a special matrix.

The colours of this special stone echo the same turquoise-orange contrast we see in reef flats, where crusts of sponge meet translucent ascidians. That shimmer isn’t just for looks—it’s a reminder of how marine organisms filter light, how nothing underwater is just one colour. The matte gold hoops are shaped like the oval mouths of sponges, with hammered details that could just as easily be the pitted limestone of a reef wall or the sandblasted edge of a bommie.

Naturally, you can wear each necklace alone, stack them or connect them to create mid length or long necklace!
