N°020 Statement Earrings - The Vanuatu Collection

The extraordinary tissue of the giant clam, with its shifting mosaics of turquoise, copper, and indigo, became my direct reference point for these earrings. The clam’s mantle is a living canvas of iridescent cells and pigments, its structure designed to harvest light and house symbiotic algae.

Translating this ecology into jewellery, I selected chrysocolla for its saturated turquoise veining, cut into bold asymmetrical drops that echo the clam’s undulating folds. Traces of green onyx add depth, while the tiniest fragments of lapis lazuli from Afghanistan introduce points of intense cobalt — a precise reflection of those scattered, luminous eyes that speckle the clam’s tissue.

The silver-plated base carries triangular metalwork with coiled motifs, recalling natural spirals and the geometric stability of marine life.
Together, the composition balances structure and fluidity, much like the organism that inspired it.
These earrings are not only wearable but alive with ecological storytelling — a piece that can shift with light and context, just as the clam itself does on the reef.
