N°010 Statement Earrings - The Vanuatu Collection

The sand anemone I came across while snorkelling in Vanuatu reveals a remarkable display of radial banding, with its oral disc patterned in alternating shades of pale and saturated blue, a geometry that seems painted by currents and light. These concentric striations are not just ornamental; they are functional tissues, guiding food particles toward the central mouth while creating a hypnotic visual rhythm.

In designing these earrings, I translated that biological patterning into stone. The rare Owyhee Opals, with their clouded bands of blue and white, echo the layered folds of the anemone’s disc. Owyhee Opal,is only found in the Owyhee mountain range on the Oregon-Idaho border, and is noted for its sky-blue opaque color and calming energy.

Each cabochon is uniquely cut into teardrop and oval forms, reflecting the organic asymmetry of living tissue. At the base, small peridot cubes add a sharp, crystalline green accent, reminiscent of the subtle flashes of fluorescence often hidden at the anemone’s margins. Silver-plated settings hold these elements together with clarity and restraint, much like a skeleton supports the soft tissues it frames.

For me, these earrings are not just adornment but a way of crystallising ecological pattern into wearable form. They invite their wearer to carry with them a glimpse of underwater symmetry—a reminder that science and art often flow from the same source: the careful observation of life.
