Sri Lanka — A Love Letter in Colour

Sri Lanka does colour with glorious abandon!This particular pair is my little love letter to that exuberance, translating the colours, contrasts and wonderful visual excess I encountered in Sri Lanka into stone and metal. I wanted it to feel joyful and instinctive, because that is how colour exists there: unexpected, fearless and absolutely everywhere.

And then there is the gloriously pink Lord Ganesha, beloved as the remover of obstacles and associated with wisdom, prosperity and new beginnings. I adore the symbolism because, frankly, it never hurts to have an elephant-headed god clearing a few obstacles from the road ahead. 

In this pair, I have translated that experience through tiny peridot nuggets & gold-dipped feathers from India, recycled glass beads  (8.5cm long), set into a 22k gold-plated base from Istanbul & Seoul.

The charm is a tiny ancient emblem of feminine power—self-possession, resilience, renewal and the confidence to take up space. Whether goddess, priestess or something we have long since forgotten, she certainly doesn't look as though she's waiting for anyone's permission.

These earrings are a small, wearable memory of Sri Lanka,saturated, joyful and slightly outrageous, and perhaps just the right jolt of tropical colour, wherever you are and whatever the Australian winter throws at you.
