I have a long-standing weakness for gloomy octopuses, especially the juveniles — those moody little shape-shifters with their improbable, glowing orange undersides. People casually call them “suckers,” as if they were simple grips, but they’re closer to a roaming sensory laboratory: tasting, touching, chemically decoding the world with every soft, deliberate contact. Nothing about them is crude. Everything is precision.

Translating that strange, intelligent beauty into jewellery required a stone that already speaks in pattern, and Maligano jasper from Indonesia does exactly that. Its fractured landscapes, drifting colour fields, and almost painterly geometry look less like geology and more like a composition caught mid-gesture — tectonics behaving like brushstrokes, mineral veins moving like thought, structure masquerading as abstraction.

I kept the architecture clean and intentional, because Maligano does not tolerate visual competition. Tiny silver pearls introduce a soft, organic counterpoint, while warm hessonite garnet beads inject that quiet, ember-like glow — a subtle nod to chromatophores and living colour.
