N°002 Statement Earrings - The Vanuatu Collection

The extraordinary tissue patterns of a giant clam have long been my muse.
Underwater, their living mantle reflects light in shifting bands of iridescence—an optical effect born of microscopic structures within the tissue. That same structural rhythm is what I sought to translate into these earrings.

The design begins with the silver-plated frame: clean, circular lines that echo the symmetry of a clam’s anatomy. Suspended within are faceted drops of citrine from India, their golden clarity reminiscent of the way sunlight filters through shallow reef water. Below, I paired polished Picasso jasper from Utah, whose fractured marbling mirrors the intricate layering of the clam’s mantle surface. The warm palette of ochres and deep reds offers a grounded counterpart to the luminosity above.

In these earrings, reef ecology becomes wearable geometry—structure reimagined as form, tissue reimagined as pattern. They are both adornment and reminder: a fragment of reef light reframed through my lens, as a biologist who still listens to the ocean, and as a jeweller who now gives that story shape.
