N°039 Statement Earrings - The Living Ocean Colour Collection

After more than three decades photographing giant clams, it takes something rare to stop me mid-water. This one did. The exhalant siphon opened in molten amber, burnt orange and velvet shadow — punctuated by an electric, almost celestial blue that sliced through the warmth like a signal flare. The mantle patterning felt composed rather than accidental, graphic rather than organic. Some surfaces you admire. Others interrupt you.

That moment translated into Chohua jasper, where manganese inks the blacks and iron carries the ochre heat in fractured, calligraphic strokes that echo the clam’s living mantle. To hold that impossible blue, I chose faceted apatite — saturated, lucid, unapologetic — mirroring the mantle’s bright sky flashes.

Set into a silver-plated base from Istanbul, Jaipur and Seoul, and measuring 6.9 centimetres all up, these earrings lean into contrast, structure and depth. Not ornamental. Architectural.
