N°16 Statement Earrings

Dripping in Rockpool Radiance

There’s something mesmerising about rock pools—tiny ecosystems teeming with life, constantly shifting with the tides. While exploring one in Woolgoolga, I found a stunning assemblage of iridescent algae, its blue-green fronds undulating in the water, speckled with tiny bead-like clusters of bubble algae. The interplay of deep turquoise, electric greens, and sunlit reflections immediately sparked the design for these handcrafted raw Apatite and Green Onyx earrings, set in a 22k gold-plated base.

The rough-cut Apatite gemstones reflect the algae’s deep marine blues and crystalline textures, mirroring the organic, irregular patterns of the algae’s growth. Their raw, unpolished edges capture the natural movement and unpredictability of the rockpool, much like the shifting hues of the submerged flora as the water ripples over them. The Green Onyx cabochon set in the sunburst gold medallion echoes the vibrant, almost glowing green of the algae’s delicate structures, bringing the piece to life with an element of depth and contrast. The circular gold setting, with its intricate cut-out details, represents the way sunlight filters through the water, dappling the algae and creating an ever-changing mosaic of shadow and light.

The mix of cool, rich blues and earthy greens gives these earrings a fresh yet luxurious feel, making them a perfect blend of elegance and nature-inspired rawness. Their lightweight, elongated design gives them movement, much like how the algae sway gently with the ocean’s pulse.
