N°059 Statement Earrings - The Sri Lanka Collection

When the Inspiration Was Me

Not every piece in the Sri Lanka Collection was inspired by an elephant, a temple, an outrageous sunset or something unexpected hiding underwater. This one came from looking at myself.

Travelling light meant wearing the same clothes in endless combinations, and I kept returning to black & red, a colour combination I have loved forever and which somehow always feels completely right on me. Looking back through our Sri Lankan photographs, there it was again and again, and naturally my jewellery brain eventually took over.

I translated that travelling wardrobe into Snowflake Jasper from Oregon, with its wonderful graphic sweeps of black and grey, added tiny red quartz crystals, and finished the earrings with wonderfully reflective hammered sterling silver rings that catch far more light than the photograph suggests (6.5cm long).

Perhaps that is why this pair feels particularly personal. It isn't Sri Lanka interpreted through landscape or wildlife; it is a little snapshot of who I was while travelling through it, turned into earrings.
