Sunlight, Turquoise and Two Strangers

What caught me was not the sari itself so much as what thesun did to it, turning an everyday turquoise fabric into something almost liquid as this woman stood beside the railway tracks, with flashes of aqua, blue, green and gold moving across the folds every time she shifted. 

These sea sediment jasper pieces became my translation of that memory, with their loose pools of turquoise and pale blue drifting through a creamy matrix rather than sitting politely inside neat boundaries, and I paired them withlight-blue quartz crystals and asilver-plated base to keep the whole composition luminous and cool (6.5cm long).

I wanted the earrings to carry some of that same effect close to the face, where turquoise has an extraordinary ability to catch the light, sharpen everything around it and give the wearer that small but very real psychological lift that comes from putting on a colour that refuses to disappear into the background.
