Fire on the Reef

Somewhere beneath the surface off Komodo, I stumbled upon a coral reef riot — a tangle of bright orange bryozoans, tiny colonial architects of the reef, flanked by brittle stars showing off in yellow sequins and a polychaete waving its feathery filters like a showgirl’s finale. Subtle? Not remotely. Utterly unforgettable? Absolutely.

These earrings are my tribute to that flamboyant underwater congregation. Slices of Botswana agate shimmer in burnt orange, deep red, and soft champagne — a molten palette framed by concentric silver-plated rings that echo the hypnotic geometry of coral colonies. Tiny hessonite and Indian garnet add a flicker of warmth, while antique mandala tops lend a dash of rock’n’roll mysticism.

At 7 cm, they’re not shy — but neither were their muses. Think of them as wearable coral fire: vibrant, defiant, and gloriously alive.
