N°092 Statement Earrings - The Vanuatu Collection

That fleeting encounter with the ribbon-like flatworm during a night snorkel—its body banded in stark contrast, black and white lines moving sinuously through the dark—became the blueprint for these earrings. I was captivated by the sheer clarity of its stripes, an evolutionary signature in motion, and wanted to translate that ecological geometry into wearable form.

The earrings are crafted as Intarsia (by a stone artisan), a meticulous fusion of onyx, hematite, and mother-of-pearl. The vertical inlay is deliberate: black onyx and silvery hematite running like the worm’s bands, with mother-of-pearl bringing that soft marine luminescence I saw underwater. Above the discs, I placed a single pearl for organic balance and a tiny onyx bead, the details held in a 22k gold-plated frame that offers warmth against the crisp monochrome.

For me, these earrings are a dialogue between science and design—taking a fleeting nocturnal vision and fixing it in a form that feels both precise and alive, a reminder of how even the smallest reef creatures can inspire lasting artistry.
