N°077 Statement Earrings - The Vanuatu Collection

The underside of the sea cushion sea urchin is a study in geometry and colour—a living mosaic of polygonal plates divided by luminous grooves radiating from the centre. When I encountered this extraordinary pattern while snorkelling, I knew immediately it would translate beautifully into jewellery. The repeated segmentation and striking contrasts became the structural language for these earrings.

I worked with Argentinian rhodonite as the anchor stone, its pink and black marbling resonating with the urchin’s contrasting hues. Above it, faceted tourmaline, garnet, and onyx beads add layers of saturated colour, echoing the rhythm of the tessellated plates. The silver-plated base, with its triangular forms and spirals, reflects the symmetry and underlying architecture of the sea urchin’s body.

For me, these earrings carry more than pattern—they embody the dialogue between biology and design, where an urchin’s anatomy becomes a wearable artefact of reef ecology, simultaneously intricate, strong, and unexpectedly beautiful.
