The tissue of a Tridacnid giant clam is an extraordinary example of ecological design—densely folded surfaces embedded with iridophores that scatter light, enhancing photosynthesis for the symbiotic algae living within.
These vibrant mantles are not simply ornamental; they are living solar panels, balancing protection with productivity in one of the reef’s most flamboyant displays.

In translating this ecology into jewellery, I turned to chrysocolla for its layered blues and greens that echo the clam’s shifting mantle, and paired it with prehnite for a translucent softness reminiscent of underlying tissue.
Set into a 22k gold-plated base, these earrings embody both resilience and radiance—an invitation to wear a fragment of the reef’s most ingenious partnerships.
