Some reef encounters don’t whisper, they overwhelm — and this creature did exactly that, a living pulse of gold circling an eye so graphic, so impossibly precise, it barely looked biological. The pufferfish hovered there with the quiet confidence of something that knows it is untouchable (highly toxic), its golden glow framed by crisp white concentric rings, a pattern that felt less like anatomy and more like a contemporary painting rendered by evolution itself. Up close, the effect was hypnotic: colour behaving not as surface, but as light.

These earrings grew directly out of that moment. Gold-dipped duck feathers carry the same volatile glow, impossibly light yet visually electric, complemented by the tiniest pearls which I threaded through delicate golden cages, echoing that mesmerising circular eye motif — luminous, graphic, alive. At 8.5 centimetres in length, they were never designed to be quiet; they were made to move, to catch light, to radiate that unmistakable golden presence.
