Let me introduce you to an intriguing type of Opal which you may have never come across before - Owyhee Blue Opal. These gemstones have only recently (2003) been discovered near the sacred Indian springs of Owyhee in Oregon. Its colour palette ranges from rich sky blue to black and translucent (depending on the level of oxidation) and it is regarded as the rarest form of opal. It is the stripy patterns - that feel like a unique fingerprint of each and every bead that first made me fall in love with this unbelievable gemstone. Mixed with its "sister stone" Kyanite, with which it shares that same blue hue, tiny Russian Aquamarines, Brazilian & African Agates & ample Turkish silver-plated parts, this piece is serious eye candy.
