A Little Help With the Obstacles

Ganesha appears throughout Sri Lanka, but this particular figure stopped me in my tracks. That extraordinary turquoise-green elephant head, the gold curling around it, the sheer exuberance of the colour—it was impossible not to translate it into jewellery.

I’ve always had a particular affection for Ganesha as the remover of obstacles. There is something wonderfully reassuring about wearing a small reminder that whatever happens to be blocking the road might, with a little persistence and perhaps some divine assistance, be shifted.

In these earrings, I tried to translate that encounter through flashes of green-blue labradorite and green quartz, suspended from wonderfully tactile hammered silver-plated rings sourced from Toronto, Jaipur and Seoul, all set into a silver-plated base (8.0cm long).

They’re statement earrings, certainly—but perhaps also a rather elegant little talisman for getting things moving.
