Blue Hour, Dipped in Gold

Every evening in Nilaveli, the beach performed the same outrageous little piece of theatre: the tropical blue slowly deepened into indigo, the palms became silhouettes, and hundreds of tiny golden lights flickered on until the entire place seemed suspended somewhere between sea, sky and candlelight. We would sit there for hours over dinner and wine, filling our travel diaries with sketches, observations and half-formed ideas for new earrings.

This pair is my attempt to bottle that gold-and-blue sensation. I used a wonderfully organic, almost molten 22-carat gold-plated form, deliberately irregular and beautifully tactile, then added dark and lighter blue quartz crystals to capture that progression from brilliant tropical blue into the deepening evening sky (6.6cm long).

They are bold, but wonderfully uncomplicated: essentially blue hour dipped in gold, with a little Sri Lankan night-time magic thrown in.

Like all our pieces, these one-of-a-kind earrings are handcrafted with love and care in our studio in Byron Bay.
