N°068 Statement Earrings - The Sri Lanka Collection

Sri Lanka gave me a completely new appreciation for the colours of earth. Beyond all the outrageous tropical pinks, blues and greens was another Sri Lanka altogether: elephant grey, temple ochre, cinnamon, scorched grass, weathered stone and earth so dark it was almost black. When I began designing the quieter, more elemental pieces of this collection, Chohua Jasper felt as though geology had already done half my job for me.

Each stone resembles a fragment of ancient calligraphy or an impossibly delicate ink painting, except nobody painted it. The dark dendritic markings are created naturally by mineral deposits, including manganese oxides, producing lines that wander across the stone like grasses, branches, horizons and mysterious characters from some language the earth neglected to teach us.

In these earrings, I have used those extraordinary natural drawings to translate the raw, earthy side of Sri Lanka that fascinated me just as much as its colour: honey & golden Buddhas,  baked into ochre and brown.

In these earrings, I used Chohua Jasper with honey-hued faceted Quartz crystals set into a 22k gold-plated base from Istanbul & Seoul- simplicity with a bang (7.0cm long). Written in manganese, composed by chance, and several million years ahead of the invention of calligraphy.

Like all our pieces, these one-of-a-kind earrings are handcrafted with love and care in our studio in Lennox Head.
