Ceylon Love Lotus

In Sri Lanka, the lotus is everywhere. In a country where Buddhism is woven so naturally into everyday life, you see lotus flowers carried into temples as offerings, piled high on roadside stalls and floating serenely across ponds. They symbolise purity and awakening, which is wonderfully lofty considering that the local monkeys appear to regard temple offerings as an exceptionally convenient buffet and will happily steal a lotus when there are no tourist biscuits available.

I became rather besotted with them, so naturally the lotus found its way into my Sri Lanka Collection.

In this pair, I tried to translate that experience through raw Kyanite, organic irregular pearls and tiny quartz crystals set into a 22k gold-plated base, bringing together the watery colours of Sri Lanka with the flower I came to associate so strongly with the island (6.8cm long).
