Sri Lanka — A Love Letter in Colour

Sri Lanka does colour with glorious abandon!This particular pair is my little love letter to that exuberance, translating the colours, contrasts and wonderful visual excess I encountered in Sri Lanka into stone and metal. I wanted it to feel joyful and instinctive, because that is how colour exists there: unexpected, fearless and absolutely everywhere.

And then there is the gloriously pink Lord Ganesha, beloved as the remover of obstacles and associated with wisdom, prosperity and new beginnings. I adore the symbolism because, frankly, it never hurts to have an elephant-headed god clearing a few obstacles from the road ahead. 

In this pair, I have translated that experience through carnelian & hessonite garnet from India, recycled glass beads from Bali and sea sediment jasper from India (7.1cm long), set into a 22k/16k gold-plated base from Istanbul & Seoul.

These earrings are a small, wearable memory of Sri Lanka,saturated, joyful and slightly outrageous, and perhaps just the right jolt of tropical colour, wherever you are and whatever the Australian winter throws at you.
