Afterglow

The same beach, the same little table — but this pair came from looking at the evening rather more literally.

Once the turquoise of the day disappeared, the whole palette became wonderfully dark and rich: deep tobacco browns, amber, old gold and that extraordinary inky blue sky just before night properly arrived. The illuminated palms and strings of lights seemed almost absurdly golden against it.

For these earrings I simply followed the colours. The beautiful ammonites come from Morocco, their fossil chambers carrying exactly those layered browns, caramels and honey tones I was looking for. I set them into a 22k gold-plated base and paired them with intense dark-blue stones above — a little slice of that Sri Lankan evening sky sitting over all the warmth below (6.5cm long).

I love the geographical confusion of it: 180-million-year-old Moroccan sea creatures, dressed for an evening on a Sri Lankan beach.
