The Sun Came Up Wearing Shiraz

It was one of those glorious Sri Lankan summer mornings when getting up absurdly early really paid off, because before the heat arrived and the beach slipped back into its familiar blues, the horizon spent a brief, extravagant hour glowing in amber, burnt orange, dusty pink and deep Shiraz tones.

I wanted these earrings to hold that particular kind of warmth, so I combinedamber, garnet and hessonite with tiny rose-coloured quartz crystals, allowing the colours to move from deep wine and burnt honey into softer pink rather than settling into one obedient shade of orange, which gives the whole pair a wonderfully rich glow when they catch the light (7.7cm long).

Worn close to the face, those amber and wine tones bring an immediate warmth of their own, while the tiny flashes of rose keep the palette luminous and alive, so the effect feels less like autumn and much more like that extraordinary first hour of a tropical day.
