Even after more than 30 years of photographing giant clams, certain encounters still have the power to interrupt everything. This one was all about colour — the exhalant siphon’s tissue glowing in saturated blues against deep shadow, a palette so intense it barely felt biological. Some colours you register; others pull you in completely.

Translating that moment led me again to Chohua jasper, whose fractured, almost calligraphic patterning provides the grounding structure — manganese shaping the dramatic blacks, iron lending the warmer tonal shifts. To carry the clam’s luminous blues, I introduced faceted and raw apatite from India, stones that hold that same cool, electric depth without losing softness. Set into a silver-plated base sourced from Istanbul and Jaipur, the composition stays crisp, allowing colour tension and geometry to lead.

At 7cm long, these earrings create a clean, elongated line — pieces for those drawn to clarity, contrast, and colour that feels unmistakably alive.
