N°112 Statement Earrings

Diving on a deep site called Pixie's Pinnacle in the Coral Sea, I came across a breathtaking colony of bubble coral at about 30 meters depth. These delicate, translucent polyps, softly swaying with the current, became the inspiration for these handcrafted moonstone and gold earrings. The ethereal glow of the moonstone mimics the coral’s, water-filled bubble polyps, while the gold filigree discs reflect the intricate structure beneath the coral’s soft exterior.

The smooth, oval moonstone gems replicate the rounded, pillow-like polyps, with their gentle play of light echoing the coral’s subtle iridescence as it catches the shifting currents. Just like bubble coral changes shape with water movement, moonstone has a unique optical effect—its adularescence—creating the illusion of movement even when still. The gold discs at the base, with their perforated design, represent the hard skeleton hidden beneath the coral’s delicate, fleshy surface. These small, patterned openings mimic the way coral polyps retract, revealing the textured calcium carbonate structure underneath.
