N°105 Statement Earrings

Some of the most spectacular corals aren’t the ones that build reefs but the ones that softly sway in the current, glowing like underwater fireworks. Dendronephthya corals, also known as carnation corals, are some of the most vibrant filter feeders on the reef. Their bright pink, red, and orange hues, combined with their intricate, tree-like branching, make them an unforgettable sight.

I designed these earrings to capture both the color and organic shape of these delicate corals while also incorporating an element of deep time—just like the reef itself. The Thunderegg Geodes used in this design aren’t just stones; they are geologic time capsules, formed in volcanic flows millions of years ago. Like the coral, they are filled with unexpected inner beauty, only revealed when cut open.

1. • Agate Thunderegg Geodes were the perfect choice to reflect the coral’s striking pinks, purples, and translucent highlights. The natural crystal formations inside the geode slices mimic the soft, textured polyps of the coral, giving them an almost living quality.
   • Carnelian and Garnet beads add a fiery contrast, just like the coral’s tentacle-like branches that catch plankton from the water.
   • Agate accents bring in additional organic texture, much like the layered, encrusting growth of these corals on the reef.
   • Dendronephthya corals don’t grow in rigid forms; they twist, branch, and extend in unpredictable ways—which is exactly why these earrings feature geode slices with irregular, natural edges.
   • The asymmetry in each piece reflects the way coral grows freely, never conforming to perfect symmetry, yet always creating beauty in its own form.

Just like the reef is built from layers of coral generations, these geodes formed inside volcanic bubbles, slowly filling with minerals to create their stunning interior designs.
