N°1585 Statement Earrings

Sponge-inspired earrings anyone?

To say that I am in love with the rose & garnet hued sponges and ascidians that I found diving at Lord Howe Island is an understatement. Their colonial structures and tissue patterns are truly marine art; add to this the vibrant hues and you have the perfect blueprint for earrings (see second image).

These earrings, inspired by diving among sponges and ascidians, feature a harmonious blend of textures and colors. 
At the top, hammered gold half-moon plates reflect the organic surfaces of underwater sponges, providing a sunlit charm. Dangling below are clusters of deep garnet & soft rose pearls that mimic the delicate forms of ascidians. In the centre of these stacks are the tiniest stars carved from Mexican Crazy Lace Agate, paying homage to microscopic single cell Foraminifera that were present (but not easily photographable) amongst the sponges and ascidians (see next image).
