Crystals That Never Finished Forming — Just Like Us

I met the inspiration for these earrings on a night snorkel at Lennox  Head — Ophiarachna incrassata, the green brittle star. It unfurled beneath my torchlight like an underwater diva — sixty centimetres of neon splendor, dressed in black and white stripes that would’ve made any 80s designer weep with envy.

I wanted to capture that wild tension — nature’s punk couture moment — without the literal stripes. Instead, I leaned into the cool palette: translucent recycled glass from the US, white button pearls from Shanghai, a flicker of peridot from India, and unfinished agate geodes from deep within the earth.

At 6.9 centimetres long, these silver-plated earrings are an ode to the creatures that dare to show off in the dark. They’re a little edgy and unapologetically alive.
